SUMMARY OF OUR CLIENT SERVICES

 

The 2012-2013 Fiscal Year resulted in the following successes:

  • 8 new heads of household were employed upon entry into the shelter; 21 adults were employed after entry.

  • 33 adults and 24 children participated in life skills activities.

  • 36 adults and 7 children received group counseling.

  • 29 adults and 6 children received individual counseling.

  • 34 clients exited the program.

 

Of the 34 clients exiting the program:

  • 19 clients were accepted into a transitional housing program.

  • 6 clients signed leases for permanent housing.

  • 2 clients returned to their abusers.

  • 3 clients exited into unknown situations.

  • 1 client was admitted to a psychiatric hospital.

FISCAL YEAR 2012-2013 INTAKE

 

557 unique adults (745 total calls) and 708 children received emergency and crisis intervention assistance through the BHNV Helpline.
52 intake interviews were conducted and 33 families entered the program.
103 clients (42 adults and 61 children) received emergency shelter.

 

FISCAL YEAR 2011-2012 INTAKE

 

525 unique adults (576 total calls) and 681 children received emergency and crisis intervention assistance through the BHNV Helpline.
35 intake interviews were conducted and 29 families entered the program.
94 clients (39 adults and 55 children) received emergency shelter.

 

FISCAL YEAR 2010-2011 INTAKE

 

478 unique adults (543 total calls) and 574 children received emergency and crisis intervention assistance through the BHNV Helpline.

44 intake interviews were conducted and 38 families entered the program.

97 clients (47 adults and 50 children) received emergency shelter.

 

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE STATISTICS

  • 1 OUT OF 4 WOMEN AND 1 OUT OF 7 MEN WILL EXPERIENCE ABUSE WITHIN HIS OR HER LIFETIME.

  • 1 IN 3 TEENS WHO HAVE BEEN IN A RELATIONSHIP EXPERIENCE THE MOST SERIOUS FORMS OF DATING VIOLENCE AND ABUSE INCLUDING SEXUAL ABUSE, PHYSICAL ABUSE, AND THREATS OF PHYSICAL HARM.

  • A WOMAN RETURNS, ON AVERAGE, TO HER ABUSER UP TO 7 TIMES BEFORE LEAVING FOR GOOD.

  • ONLY 20% OF VICTIMS REPORTING AN INJURY FROM INTIMATE PARTNER VIOLENCE SOUGHT MEDICAL TREATMENT FOLLOWING THE INJURY.

  • 92% OF WOMEN WHO WERE PHYSICALLY ABUSED BY THEIR PARTNERS DID NOT DISCUSS THESE INCIDENTS WITH THEIR PHYSICIANS; 57% DID NOT DISCUSS THE INCIDENTS WITH ANYONE.

  • INTIMATE PARTNER HOMICIDE ACCOUNTED FOR 30% OF THE MURDERS OF WOMEN AND 5% OF THE MURDERS OF MEN.

 

FAIRFAX COUNTY DOMESTIC VIOLENCE STATISTICS

 

According to the Fairfax-Falls Church 2014 Point-In-Time Survey, 33% percent of homeless individuals within families were homeless due to domestic violence. Additionally, 42% identified themselves as domestic violence victims or reported a prior history of domestic violence, up from 37% in 2013.

 

In 2013, the Fairfax County Police Department responded to 11,138 domestic violence-related calls for service.

 

For 2011, U.S. Bureau of Justice Statistics estimates that Intimate Partner Violence constituted 2% of all violence against males and 36% of all violence against females in the United States.
